The thought for Wendy’s “old-fashioned” hamburgers was inspired by Dave Thomas’s trips to Kewpee Hamburgers in the hometown of Kalamazoo, Michigan. The Kewpee sold square hamburgers and thick malt shakes, much like the well-known restaurant that Thomas eventually founded in Columbus, Ohio, in 1969. Square patties had corners that stuck out so that customers could easily see the caliber of the meat. The Columbus location later added a Tim Hortons and was closed on March 2, 2007, after 38 numerous years of business, as a result of declining sales. Basketball star John Havlicek, an Ohio State University alumnus, was among Thomas’s earliest investors, which eventually gave Havlicek an adequate amount of an ixhqki stream to retire comfortably.
